Mosaic-House-of-Dionysos-Paphos

This outdoor course includes, among others: - A mosaic workshop with a local artist - A professional tour guide - Wine tasting at a traditional winery - Tours, trips, and museum tickets - Traditional Cyprus dinner (optional)

The course is based on Outdoor Learning, an approach which involves the transformation of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours through direct engagement with the outdoor environment for the personal and social benefit of individuals, families, society and the planet. The participants will visit some significant remains of the Ancient Greek culture in Cyprus, including museums and archaeological sites, and they will take part in relevant activities –such as making a Mosaic– and festivities; they will also learn through on-site visits about ancient tradition and habits and about the influence of Greek mythology on different aspects of life in Cyprus.

THE COURSE MOSTLY TAKES PLACE OUTDOORS, IN OPEN SPACE.

In Ancient Greece, there was always enough time to celebrate and participate in Dionysia, a large festival in honor of the god Dionysus; so, since we want the participants of our course to feel the spirit of the ancient world, we have included in the program at least one special festive day, with unforgettable events, such as a wine festival, a carnival parade, and visiting the local wineries. Together with other participants and a trainer, you’ll also discuss the meaning of these traditions in the contemporary culture.

During this course, you’ll be able to find some inspiration and your artistic soul during a mosaic workshop, in which you will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and you’ll create your own mosaic inspired by traditional mosaic motifs.

Finally, to give you more inspiration and ready-made scenarios for student group projects, we will show you some useful ICT tools. With the use of these tools, you’ll be able to manage and share gathered materials in multiple ways, prepare creative videos/animations and more.

The cost of the course plus the costs of travelling, accommodation and other daily expenses can be covered by an Erasmus+ KA1 grant; more info here.

Target audience includes, among others, teachers of any level of education (kindergarten, primary, secondary, high school), headteachers, inspectors and advisers.
